5 K-Pop Songs For Morning Commutes

Getting out of bed is only half the battle during the week, but actually making it to work in a relatively decent mood is the next step. Music can serve as a great pick me up, so when you’re on your morning commute to work or school, listen to some of our favorite K-Pop songs. For people who like to take the day more slowly, there are some songs for you, while those of you who need something fast-paced to get you really revved up, there’s also that. Whether you’re in a car, on public transportation, or your own two legs, these songs will really hit home. If your morning commute doesn’t involve driving (or if it does then you can have a look at it later), then you may wish to pass the time reading a blog about motorists and their music habits. If this is something that you think you might be interested in, then you can find it here.

K.Will – A Bright Day

Before getting into anything that will definitely wake you up, take it slowly. Listen to A Bright Day; think about what the day ahead of you will hold. Will it be a great day, an okay day or, unfortunately, a difficult one? Hopefully, it will be a fulfilling one, and make this commute well worth it! Mediate for a few minutes while listening to K.Will, and then move on to some other songs in this list that are a bit more upbeat.

MBLAQ – R U Ok?

You’re already awake and on your way, but you may not be completely awake. The soft snapping and piano instrumental at the beginning of R U Ok? transitions into a faster beat that will wake you up a little bit, to the point where you may be bobbing your head along to it.

EXO-K – Angel

If you still have gunk in your eyes and you’re not so sure if all of your buttons are done properly, you’re probably not ready for something really loud and wild. EXO-K’s Angel, from the group’s debut album, is a simple ballad that has some great high points throughout the song that will definitely lift up your mood.

Roy Kim – Love Love Love

The singer’s acoustic guitar and gentle voice will gently raise your level of awareness. The melody has its fast points and also soft, harmonious moments that ends in a crescendo that will result in anybody feeling a bit more awake after listening.

SHIMMixes – K-Lubbing

This song is a bit jarring, so this may actually be a great replacement for coffee. It’s not a K-Pop song per say, but one of the greatest mash-ups of songs from May-September 2013 by SHIMMixes. The entire mix will have you dancing in your seat, so that by the time you’re at work you’ll be pumped.

What’s your favorite song to listen during your morning commute? We’d love for you to share your picks, and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and Bloglovin’ so you can keep up with all our posts.

Artist Spotlight: Beenzino

K-Hip hop artist Beenzino creates a world with his music where fashion, art, and music blend. His lyrics contain various sexual innuendos that are tastefully depicted, the love for surrealist artists like Salvador Dali, high fashion, and his love for women. Beenzino rose from the underground hip-hop scene, and is a free spirit that never compromises his artistic identity.

Growing up in New Zealand, Lim Sung Bin developed a love and admiration for hip-hop music. At first, he couldn’t understand the foreign lyrics, but that helped him develop his flow. After this, he began writing lyrics that would be relatable to people, thus creating a bigger connection with his audience. His stage name persona, Beenzino, is a tribute and parody to American rapper Benzino and a play on his name Sung Bin.

Fast forward to today, Beenzino is pursued by many artists to be featured in their songs. He is one of the best rappers in Korea, with his very unique flow and artistic sensibility. He  incorporates a lot of singing onto his tracks (unlike other rappers that only rap) that create a very cool and melodic experience in his tracks.

Beenzino

The 27-year-old rapper is currently signed with The Quiett and Dok2’s independent record label Illionaire Records, and has two albums in his roster. His first mini album 24:26 was released in 2012, and has collaborations with Dynamic Duo and labelmates The Quiett and also Dok2. The music takes you back to the ‘90s, when hip-hop was a its peak. Some songs, especially Boogie On & On, really make you want to stand up and dance. This song really highlights his singing voice, which is very smooth and has a very unique color.

Dali, Van, Picasso was only released as a single, but is a very powerful track. Beenzino really dug deep within himself while writing the lyrics of this song. He lets us know how much he loves these three artists and how they shaped his life and artistic sensibility. He makes powerful statements of who he is as an artist, what he wants to become, and where he wants to take his music in the future. This track is Beenzino’s self-portrait.

With his second album Up All Night, released July 2014, he continued with his signature funky, hip-hop vibe. He still shows his love for fashion and art throughout the album. His first single How Do I Look? talks about how he loves to look fashionable and chic and definitely loves a woman who appreciates fashion as much as he does.

Beenzino How Do I Look

The highlight track of the album is without a doubt the title track Up All Night featuring Mayson The Soul. Beenzino lets go of all his emotions, and this is what really makes the track so memorable. You can feel his suffering from the way he raps and sings in the song. Not only that, but the lyrics are intense and portray a feeling of sadness, regret, and hate.

When it comes to Beenzino’s music, there is no comparison to any other artists out there. He is very unique and his music really takes you places. Not only are his lyrics are relatable, but they also make you feel like you are digging into his life. Even if Beenzino is collaborating with K-Pop artists like HAT:FELT and Lee Hyori, hip-hop camarades like Dok2, or K-indie artist Zion T, he always injects his special touch to every collaboration.

Do you like Beenzino as much as we do? What do you think about his work? We’d love to hear you thoughts and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,

K-Pop Songs to Start Your Morning

An array of K-Pop songs to get your weekday morning started off right. The following tune selections are upbeat and will get you moving during the morning hours. Because as we all know, it’s extremely hard to get out of bed in the morning, especially when school and/or work are the reasons for doing so. All of these songs will get the blood pumping through you and get you out of bed and excited to tackle the day.

Neon Bunny – Oh My Prince

Neon Bunny’s soft vocals are the perfect thing to wake up to in the morning. The bass and club-inspired music of Oh My Prince will have you tapping your feet and bobbing your head. It’s a great song to listen to as you begin to wake up in your bed. The song will get you out of bed and moving around. Oh My Prince isn’t too intense that it startles you as you start to wake up. Instead, it will aid in your level of coherence and it will help put you in a good mood to start the day.

BTS – 여기 봐

For a little Pharrell/ Neptunes-inspired tune, just turn to BTS’ 여기 봐. The song is made up of elements that will put you in a great mood. The tune, the music, the instruments, the vocals, the rapping, all of it flows together effortlessly and has an upbeat and carefree vibe. Blast 여기 봐 as you make your coffee and breakfast and dance around the kitchen. It might also be a good idea to pick out your outfit for the day since you will be in an euphoric state due to the relaxed feeling of 여기 봐.

History – It’s Alright

It’s Alright is quite different from the previous tracks on this list. But, the song has a great beat, and how can you deny a song that states “It’s Alright” throughout the chorus? A great way to start your day is by already telling yourself that everything is alright. If you’re familiar with History, then you are aware of their vocal abilities and flawless harmonies. It’s Alright is another upbeat song that puts you in a good mood, which is the best way to begin your day. It’s Alright also utilizes musical elements from numerous genres and eras, such as funk, the ’80s, and others. The different sound will enhance your mood.

Kanto – Fly High ft. Olltii & Sik-K

This next tune may seem like a buzz kill at first. And in comparison to the songs listed above, it kind of is… But Kanto’s rapping and vocal tone are captivating. The song builds upon itself, and although it starts out slow, you won’t want it to end. While listening to this song you become engrossed in the beat, music, and rapping. Not to mention that the chorus offers an inspirational phrase to start your day:

We can fly

When Fly High ends. you will feel like you can take on the world. And who doesn’t want to start their day off feeling like that?

Taeyang – Body

The final song to get your morning off on the right foot is none other than Taeyang’s Body. Just take the final 3+ minutes of your morning and revel in the vocals of Taeyang. This song will get you pumped up and ready to tackle the day and you will feel beautiful and loved throughout the day. That is the power of Taeyang. Aside from the lovable lyrics, Body is an extremely catchy song with a great beat and overall feeling.

These are only a few K-Pop tunes to get your day started. Let us know if you have a favorite song that gets you pumped up to start the day. Leave your thoughts in the comment section below and be sure to subscribe to the site and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and Bloglovin’ so you can keep up with all our posts.

5 Reasons to Watch ‘Korea’s Next Top Model’

Korea’s Next Top Model (a.k.a. KNTM) is currently on their fifth cycle run, and as the original America’s Next Top Model counterpart, they included male competitors. The show’s newest edition started running in Korea’s OnStyle channel on August 16th, and the rooster of aspiring models seems very promising.

Only sixteen contestants are on the running to become Korea’s Next Top Model. The girls are being mentored by stylist and creative director Han Ye Yun, while the guys are under super model Kim Won Joong’s teaching. But what makes Korea’s Next Top Model Cycle 5: Boys Vs. Girls worth watching?

1. The Competition, Challenges, and High Quality Production

America’s Next Top Model’s past cycles have focused more on creating drama among the contestants than on the actual competition. KNTM, on the other hand, focuses on the development on the models. Yes, there is the occasional drama and love lines, especially now with guys added to the competition, but it doesn’t overshadow the main purpose of the show: the competition. The models’ stories have been very engaging and are very relatable to the viewers. That drama was shown in a very emotional challenge for the models and was very compelling.

Moreover, the show’s challenges so far have been very creative, and the quality of the production has even triumphed over the original American version. From creating the show’s title credits, to posing in a genderless fashion photoshoot, KNTM hasn’t ceased to surprise the viewers. The sets and photoshoots done so far have been visually stunning and inspiring. Just look at the opening title for the show; it’s amazing!

2. Host Jang Yoon Joo

Jang Yoon Joo does a very good job hosting the show; she is very entertaining and her personality seems original (unlike other countries where the host tends to copy Tyra Banks’ personality). Her charisma really shines through the show, and her constructive criticism seems real. Even if she scolds one of the models, you can really tell she genuinely cares about them. She makes the perfect combination of role model, friend, and host.

Host of Korea's Next Top MoDEL

3. Celebrity Cameos

The show is currently running on TV, but so far, it has had a few cool cameos. Starting with the first episode, the creator of the Top Model franchise Tyra Banks appeared on the episode. She helped select the contestants alongside model Lee Soo Hyuk. Tyra told to the contestants that she will be seeing them soon, and with cycle 21 of America’s Next Top Model international destination being Korea, she might have a very important role in the finale.

tumblr_n402qy7n3F1qg6u4zo1_500

Also, actor Kim Da Hyun who plays Hedwig in the musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch taught the contestants about letting their emotions out without fear. And taking a different route, rapper Beenzino requested the help of the models to appear as characters in his first music video for How Do I Look. And not only did we see Beenzino, but also got a behind the scenes look of the shooting for his music video.

And last but not least, Dickpunks had a short but memorable cameo, playing live on a runway where the contestants had a walking challenge. The band is really fun, and seeing them playing live while the models walked was very cool.

Take a look at Beenzino’s music video, How Do I Look, featuring the KNTM contestants.

4. Makeovers

Everyone’s favorite part of the Top Model franchise are the makeovers, which usually happens around the third or fourth episode of each cycle. Who will love their makeover and who will cry?

Usually, a makeover is done very thoughtfully; it’s not a matter of, “Oh we should make her blonde,” and then they do. It’s a well thought-out process that determines which look will suit best and enhance each models’ features, making the models look more editorial and getting rid of their commercial looks. The makeover is definitely one of the most entertaining episodes, since they brought the model side of the competitors.

5. Eye Candy

With this season incorporating male contestants to the show, there is finally eye candy for everyone. The female contestants range from high-fashion to girl-next-door beauties. Hwang Gi Beum, in particular, is one of the women who really stand out, and you can already picture her working international runways and magazines.

tumblr_n6tkq9Jdta1rnyy6vo1_500

Moreover, the male contestants have nothing to lose against the women in the competition. They each have very unique features that really make them stand out. There are even some contestants that resemble idols, like contestant Lee Chul Woo who looks like a hybrid of SHINee’s Key, FT Island’s Lee Hong Ki, and EXO’s Kai after his makeover (even one of the female contestants says that in the makeover episode). Bang Tae Un, for his part, looks like a more masculine and taller version of Super Junior M’s Henry. As for Shin Jae Hyuk, he resembles EXO D.O. and Xia Junsu.

If doppelgangers and beauty isn’t enough for you, the cameo’s, the creative challenges, and production will sure get you hooked on Korea’s Next Top Model Cycle 5: Boys Vs. Girls.

5 Reasons To Watch Kim So Eun & Song Jae Rim’s ‘We Got Married’

With the departure of the Wooyoung-Park Se Young couple from We Got Married 4, a new couple is stepping up to the plate. After a slew of idol-dominated relationships, We Got Married is adding a new couple made up of two actors whose names you may not recognize, but whose faces you very may well. Kim So Eun and Song Jae Rim are definitely a couple to keep an eye on.

The first episode with the new couple will air on September 20, and you may be thinking about watching. Here are five reasons to definitely tune in to the show.

1. This Preview

You don’t need subtitles to see how fun this couple will be. In just a few seconds, Song Jae Rim goes from being introduced as a charismatic man, fighting and riding a motorcycle, to being a complete dork who Kim So Eun is practically appalled by.

We Got Married Song Jae Rim Kim So Eun

We also see the couple drinking, initiated by Kim So Eun (ruining her sweet, innocent image), something that brings a more mature side to We Got Married. The two are already seen feeding one another and acting familiar, which looks so different from the coyness other couples have shown.

2. You Know Them, Even If You Don’t Think You Do

Kim So Eun played Cha Ga Eul in Boys Over Flowers, the best friend who falls in love with Kim Bum. Everyone rooted for her the entire show, hoping that she could win over his heart, and she end up winning over all of ours. She’s starring in the upcoming tvN drama Liar Game, and recently appeared in the Cannes Film Festival film, Mourning Grave.

Song Jae Rim, on the other hand, is currently in tvN’s drama The Idle Mermaid, but it’s his reputation as a tough warrior that has gained him a lot of attention. In The Moon Embraces The Sun, he played the loyal bodyguard Woon, and in Two Weeks he was the fearful assassin hunting Lee Joon Ki.

3. Song Jae Rim Is Really Sexy

There’s really no way to be less blunt about it. The actor has proved his manliness and charisma time and time again (while pulling off long hair), and if the two of them go to the beach in an episode, people will be very excited.

Song Jae Rim Sexy

4. Kim So Eun’s Variety Skills Will Make The Show Exciting

Kim So Eun has done variety shows before about her relationship with another celebrity, f(x)’s Victoria. The two of them showcased trends that 20-somethings would be interested. The first episode began much like an episode of We Got Married, with the new “couple” meeting one another anonymously and going to different locations on “dates.”

5. Because We Got Married Needs More Realism And Less Idols

We Got Married isn’t really a place for idols. Idols are meant to be seen from afar, not in relationships. The season began with three idols involved in couples (MBLAQ’s Lee Joon, Secret’s Sunhwa, and ZE:A’s Kwanghee), and it kind of threw off the whole show. We Got Married appears to be trying to get back to more “realistic” faux-marriages with this couple that looks like they get along really well.

Are you looking for to this new We Got Married couple? Who was your favorite We Got Married couple? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below and be sure to subscribe to the site and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and Bloglovin’ so you can keep up with all our posts.
